The book was returned to the library after almost 100 years

A book was returned to St. Helena Public Library in California after more than 96 years.

Jim Perry found the book, A Family History of the United States by Benson Lossing, during a house cleaning. The book had been in Perry’s family for generations and was most likely borrowed by his wife’s grandfather.

The book was checked out on February 21, 1927, and the late fee was 5 cents per day. Fortunately, the library did not charge the late fee, which would be worth about $1,700 today.
